We don’t often get to draw on the fond memories of tree climbing from our own youth when building projects. But that’s exactly what was required of this enthusiastic challenge — while preserving the growing tree as its anchor, build a home that adults and children can share some fanciful, imaginative whimsy. Right in the background of an urban, Washington, DC, home.
We approached this treehouse design and build like any other project — with carefully laid plans, an eye for intricate detail, and a lot of open communication among our team and our client. We started by ensuring that the tree was as solid in its foundation as we had hoped, and then we created a structure that would use the natural curve of the tree to its advantage.
The result is an unexpected, solid, and fun treehouse that conveys surprise, delight, and — truly above all else — a cozy place for families to share memories for decades to come.
